Designed for our May 2017 SockStitch subscription, the Isan Sock is a companion pattern to Amor Esperanza's Ama Scarf. Both feature the same "pearl" pattern in their construction, which gives a nod to the Japanese Ama, an elite group of women free divers who fearlessly collect pearls at the bottom of the ocean. This centuries' old practice is passed down from mother to daughter, much like knitting, so we named this sock Isan, which means "heritage" in Japanese. Knit from the cuff down, this sock features an Eye of the Partridge heel and rounded toe.
